T-Gripped, yes I do often build w/o 'em but have also cut them in, often w. one or on occasion, 2 holes either side of the neck near the top of the face of the box. That particular box does sound better imho, with a hole or two but I didn't know if my buddy would like it done that way, and being a surprise... so left it alone this time. -Glenn

Oh, on occasion I also have put a round hole in the side up top to better hear myself, but rarely do I do that. -Glenn
