  • I really like your creative use of materials. Very cool looking guitar!
  • That is one excellent piece of work, you should be right proud!!!

  • the variation of color on the fretless neck was done by using a brown sharpie after first coat of stain/polly, then sanding it away partly to fade it, then 4 more coats of polly/ then i distessed the neck itself so it looked like wear marks from sliding hand back and forth. my friend said it looks thirty years old. i can guarantee some of the reclaimed wood was older than that. it's amazing what beautiful old wood furniture people will but out at the curb. take off the stains and paints and you can find treasure. as a side note I pratically burnt my saw motors run capacitor using the saw to resaw the oak thin enough for the box bottom and top!

  • Uncle john, the tail is an extra long door strike plate with a gold tone watch band decoratibg it. nickle plated brass nuts for string anchors, hinges are 9 mm shell casing nestled in a 45 calibur, perfect fit. bridge is 2 357 magnum nickle plated casings resting on the screw adjuster pieces from the strike plate tail piece, resting on a silver plated key chain fob that says massachusetts on the opposite side. sprite can bottoms cut out and mesh added. I think the stain polly mix is minwax satin dark mohogany/.

  • hella  cool  .   ;-)

  • There we go.  Great materials.  Thanks, Gary.

  • Uncle John: here's what Randy said about this cool build in the second picture:

4 string, work in progress. still need to do wiring and fret markers. not confident enough yet to try wire frets.. 357 cartridges for the bridge, 45 calibur with 9mm inside as hinges. oak body, poplar neck with teak fretboard. used sprite can bottoms and dollar store wire mesh pencil holder to make the vents. all the wood I use is discarded furniture.

Wow, Randy!  Great use of materials!  And slide play doesn't need (or even really want) hard frets!  Sweet build!

  • A great look.  What are those pieces?  The tail, the bridge and selector like thing?   Rich wood tone.   Oh!  What at the hinges too?
