AGP gave me the idea for using pie pans. Got them at Dollar Tree.

  • So cool!
  • Thanks buddy (mate).  When I saw yours I just had to have one for myself.  I didn’t expect it to sound as well as it does.  I put 46-36-26 electric strings on it and it has a fairly warm sound.  I’m thinking of building a four stringer with  shorter scale and use banjo strings.  Thank you for posting the photos of your Pi pan.  I needed a break from cigar boxes and this was a fun build.  Stay safe and stay dry.

  • Sweet Looking Build Bob, and I agree, it doesn't need sound holes, my Pi Pan Build is sitting 2 feet to my left as I'm typing this, and has done so ever since I build it, has been my main go to Git, for trying out new Riffs & Tunes etc., and like yourself, I don't plug it in all that often, but when I do, it has the ability, to sound Sweet on the clean settings and Roars on the Grungy ones, will try and get a sound sample up soon!  :-)

  • Thanks, Bob.  I may look for those pans at Dollar Tree.

  • Thanks UJ.  I didn’t put any sound holes in it.  I wanted to hear how it sounded first.  It has about the same resonance as a cigar box with sound holes so I’ll leave it.  I put a piezo that I slightly muted in it and it sounds fine.  I built it more as a novelty than the sound quality but I’ll play it often with and without an amp.

  • Good looking instrument. Much volume?
