Q: What goes Thump-Thump and smells like cheese?A: #164 - The Cheese Banger Foot Drum, that's wot!I've not been in my shop for awhile, but while rooting around in a local dump recently, I came across this nifty wooden Wisconsin cheese box and I couldn't just leave it in the dumpster. I simply had to exercise my too-long-dormant, nutty "let's-make-something-outta-this" persona! (I also found a way-cool, ancient galvanized washtub there, too. It was a wicked challenge to extricate this from the bowels of the dumpster, but it shall become a bass soon!). Back in my shop, I braced the 'heads' with maple strips, painted the front 'head' black, attached 'feet' and pedal bracket and rubbed it all over with danish oil. In order to give the box a THUMP with more muscle than 'cheese', I installed a piezo pickup and inexpensive pre-amp. Well, Dang! Sounds good an' primitive with the CBGs, fo' sure! And, yes, it still is cheesy but I like it.
