I lived over there 35 years ago, and I see things today in your average Waitrose that I would have KILLED for back then. My Mom would scold me (she'd gotten married in just post-war England) "You have no idea how bad it was under rationing!"
Today if I'm dining in London, I just go to Brick Lane or Leicester Sq. I developed a taste for good Indian cooking hard to please here in the US.
As for British Beer, I'm a devotee of Michael Jackson (the British one, of course!) The Campaign for Real Ale has turned 40; I've been a supporter for 35 years.
