Hey folks, I'm wiring up my first cbg, just a piezo and a volume pot. I found wiring diagrams and that.
The question is - where does the ground wire go? do I just fix it to the inside of the box or what?
Any advice, insults, or hillbilly rhetoric welcome.
Cheers,
j

Im so glad I read this... just realised Iv potentially made a huge error!!
Iv just put a tone and volume pot on my box, but its got a mahogany bridge... so where do I put my ground (the one lablelled 'ground wire from bridge')?? Its a strat style single coil, so I guess I do need to earth to something...
I followed a very similair diagram from those helpful chaps at Seymour Duncan
i found the plan finally, but also another post saying that my 500k pots would bugger up the piezo so now I am going to scrap the volume and tone nobs and just whack the thing straight into the input jack. I just have to try and work out how to turn the holes I drilled for the pots into a beautiful sound hole. hmmm...
also, does anyone know if I need to put some audio cable between the piezo wires and the input jack, or can I just solder them straight onto the input as I don't need any nmore length than I already have on the piezos. And can I link the two piezos together still? is there any point? does it make it louder?
if i need audio wire, what do I ask for in maplin because the bloke just looked blankly at me when i told him what I was doing.
Hey guys,
I'm trying to get together two piezo's with volume and tone pots. I KNOW I found a plan for it on here somewhere. Can anyone remember where it was. I even made a quick sketch of it so I'm sure I didn't dream it! Its driving me nuts.
any help,
anthony
An important thing to remember with ground wires is that each component should get the ground from the same common source. In Ted's excellent drawing it looks like it's the body of the vol pot. In other words the ground wires should spread out from one point like a spider's legs rather than going around in a ring formation like house wiring. This avoids ground (or in Brit-talk 'earth') loops which can cause hum and interference.
Thanks Ted! The only bit Im not sure about is the wire in the top right of the picture labeled 'ground wire to bridge' . As Im putting a movable bridge on this guitar, where does it go?
Appreciate the help man,

Hi J,
No such thing as a dumb question. The ground wire goes to the back of the pot and then to the ground (sleeve) of the jack. The 3rd lug of the jack is also grounded to the back of the pot. The hot wire goes to the 1st lug of the pot. Solder a wire to the center lug which goes to the hot (tip) on the jack. Here's a diagram (disregard the ground wire to bridge when using a piezo). Imagine that the single coil is a piezo:
