THE DARK HOUR (First test with Zoom Q8 video camera)The Dark Hour is the last track on my latest album Hidden By The Clouds. It was sparked off when I read about the "Dark Hour" in Robert Macfarlane's book "Landmarks" It's described as:"interval between the time of sufficient light to work or read by and the lighting of candles - therefore a time of social domestic conversation ("We will talk that over at the dark hour") "Other influences were - The wonderful Flying Pig pub in Cambridge closing, the sound of a wineglass being accidentally hit while being tilted!, and the books "The Case Against Reality by Donald D. Hoffman, and Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake.I decided to buy the Zoom Q8, to simplify things when doing videos. It has 2 XLR/1/4” combo inputs, plus it’s own mics. I went from the back of my amp to a DI, then into one of the inputs, and combined that with the cameras mics. I still need to try a few more settings, but quite pleased with this for a first attempt..

  • thanks a lot Poorness :-)

  • You know a hardcore busker when you see her wearing a stocking cap and gloves while playing. A compelling performance as usual. Bravo!

  • thanks a lot Doug :-)

  • Top notch as always Belinda! It’s a treat to watch you busk.

  • thanks A.D. :-)

  • Zooooooomy  Be ! getting lyrical in the thick of things !

  • Thanks John. Are you shouting at me with your big text? ;-)

  • thanks Digly, yes well worth the money I think. There's a new one out now which was about double the price. The video quality was 4k, but I don't think my computer would cope with editing 4k video! Happy Christmas to you and Judith :-)

  • Yup.  I am with Brian and that Digly Dog on this one.  Really nice to see and hear.

  • Wow, that camera's worth the money !  Having a line input from the amp really improves your sound quality.  I guess in windy conditions you can just turn the camera mics off.

Lovely song, and I hope that you all have great Christmas.
