It was 1972 when I bought my first guitar and learned to play it... badly!Although I remember the music was great in the 70's there was an awful lot of rubbish too. This is a first demo of a rather tongue in cheek song I have started working on -- needs a bit of polish but you'll get the idea!LyricSeventies KidI bought a guitar and a book of chordsI dreamt of electrics that I couldn't affordAnd all the young dudes they were wearing flaresInstead of flowers they had stars in their hairBut I played what I could and I did what I didAnd a pinball wizard really lifted the lidAnd there was Telegram SamAnd there was Telegram SamWell I dug T. Rex and all the restAnd I tried to look glam in my tie dyed vestI learned all the chords till my fingers bledAnd I couldn't get Bowie outta my headBut I played what I could and I did what I didAnd I wrote some songs but I was only a kidAnd there was Life on Marsthere was Life on MarsAlong came punks and I didn't much careDidn't wear the pins or colour my hairCould have played along to those 3 chord breaksBut I found it wasn't just my head that achedSo I played what I could and I left the restHad nothing much to get off my chestAnd there was American PieAnd the needle on my player was as heavy as LedPink Floyd posters hanging over my bedThe pathway to heaven was a Zeppelin balloonWhile my friends all polished up their silver spoonsSo I played what I could and I left the restDeciding if the Beatles or the Stones were bestThere was a whole lotta love© BCR 2011

  • Cickney Rebel - what a dork - how come you always spot typos just when you've hit the go button!
  • @ bemuzic - thanks - those 2 photos of me and Denis in Kiss the Sky brought back some embarassing ones - they were lurking on my computer!

    @ Tea Belly - yep I was going to slip Cickney Rebel in there - maybe when I add the middle section Steve H will pride of place with the Ian Dury and the Blockheads!

    A Steve T - hahaha!  Painting your hub caps was a bit radical LOL!  Painting bosoms was more fun!

  • ha good song and vid!!....brought back lots of happy memories : -)
  • Ahh....memories ... i had a Morris Minor with flowers painted on the hubcaps, flairs, yellow grandad tee shirt and a red one with black stars on, one of those psychy ring scarves, tie-dyed shirt, queued at 7am to get tickets for Zep...all cool stuff  lol, and don't forget the ker-knockers...(-;
