  • Thanks Jim! I didn't know that much about this song or WC Handy, either, so thanks for sharing that. 

  • Good job Rick. It's certainly one of the early songs that popularized blues. WC Handy,who wrote it, was a black, trained musician who heard rural Southern musicians playing in this style. He became known as "The Father of the Blues" by bringing this style to a national audience. He says he was waiting for a train and heard some weird sound being made by a black fellow playing guitar using a knife as a slide and this experience, among others, lead him to the blues.
