Thanks Jim! I didn't know that much about this song or WC Handy, either, so thanks for sharing that.
Good job Rick. It's certainly one of the early songs that popularized blues. WC Handy,who wrote it, was a black, trained musician who heard rural Southern musicians playing in this style. He became known as "The Father of the Blues" by bringing this style to a national audience. He says he was waiting for a train and heard some weird sound being made by a black fellow playing guitar using a knife as a slide and this experience, among others, lead him to the blues.
