Drum loops are not for purists, I suppose. But I can have a lot of fun when I put some together and, eventually, find a way to make some of my riffs fit over them.

I suggest a film can with 27cm diameter at least. The circular format adds to the sound. The can also makes the instrument more friendly to play, because it fits right between the legs. For my next build a 38cm can is already at hand :-)
Hi Bear, I also have a another bass, it was built from a medium sized cigarbox and it sounds way brighter, higher register than this one. On that one I use a D and a G string. This one uses an A string, but I felt that can itself contributes for a deeper, meaner sound. This one string bass also uses a piezzo, I think it also contributes to the deeper sound.
Been researching since seeing your video and going to be buying a bass guitar tuning peg and making a 36" scale bass this week. I've only got a small box to use and it's not even close to being thin enough to resonate. Using a mag pickup, does box size and resonating qualities matter when amping up each time?
Thanks guys! I am surprised just how easy it is to come out with ideas when you only have one string. This one is tunned to B, I have a larger can, soon I will build another bass with longer scale and E string.

I tracked some out on eBay. Here in Brazil, they are cheaper than cigar boxes!
Thanks for the tips Rafael. I'll definitely make use of those pointers. Matter of fact I'm going to look for a film can now. Thanks again.

Nice. Deep tubby tone too.

Yup, fitting that in pretty nice.
