I did this song back in 15' on my swampy. Trying to learn some 'ornaments' to jazz up my mando playing. Needs practice.Gonna Move To Kansas City - (Jr. Wells and others)Woke up this morning, feeling bad.Thinking about the lovin' I once had.She done moved..............She done moved to Kansas City. She done moved to Kansas City, where they don't know me.Walkin down Main Street turn up Beale,Lookin' for the gal they call Lucille. She moved....Mississippi River, long, deep, and wide,Can't see my baby on the other side. She done moved ....You don't like my peaches, don't shake my tree.I ain't asking you to name your kids for me.She moved...Repeat Verse One

  • Sounded real good Unc J! Neat playing.  Those notes on that Mando really rang out in a harmonically bluesy way.

  • Oh yeah, Derek. Rich DelGrosso is great!  Thanks!

  • Tune sounds great on the mando, John. Gettin' fancier! Mandos have been around long before cigar box instruments, so I suspect the blues may have likely been played on mandos a lot more often in the early days. Sometime you may want to check out Rich DelGrosso for some mandolin blues.

  • Thanks, Kale.  Ukes and mando are both good for blues.  I  think on the mando, more of a change up than all the time thing.  But a very nice change up.

  • Nicely done Uncle J. It's interesting hearing a blues tune on mando. The mandolin is so cutting, I normally think of it in a folk or bluegrass context. But then again... I've played blues on a ukulele. LOL.

  • Rick!  Linda was not even home when I did this.

  • Very nice mandolin playing. They sure sound good. You do have a witch overlooking every move.

  • Thanks, BQ.  That is my faded but comfy Iowa State Cyclone hat.

LOL, Alan.  Took me a minute to get what you were talking about.  Do they have KFC down there?  Fried chicken sounds good.

Andries, Doug, thanks it does ring pretty well.

Dave, I will keep plucking.  That is a cool little blues pattern but I should have gone slower to get it more right.  It's new to me.  And I don't slow down very well.

  • You sure can play that mandolin Unc. Good on you. Keep pluckin that thing.

  • Wow! The mando really projects well! I’m glad you included the lyrics to follow along. The blues on a mandolin! Reminds of a guy I met looking at mandolins at a music store. I asked what kind of music he played. Expected answer was bluegrass, he said the blues. It broadened my perspective! I enjoyed the tune. Thanks for sharing it!
