I hope it is a good while and many good times before your earthly trials are over.I've heard Mississippi John Hurt do this song on CD, but I think it is an oldie and that he did not write it.LET THE MERMAIDS FLIRT WITH MEBlues all on the ocean. Blues all in the air.I can't stay here no longer. I have no steamship fare. When my earthly trials are over, cast my body out to sea.Save all the undertaker bills. Let the mermaids flirt with me.My wife controls our happy home. My sweetheart I can't find. The only thing I call my own is a troubled and a worried mindI do not work for pleasure. Earthly peace, I'll see no more. The onliest reason I work at all is to drive the wolf from my door.Blues all in my body, my darlin's forsaken me.If ever see her again. I have to swim across the sea. When my earthly trials are over, cast my body out to sea.Save all the undertaker bills. Let the mermaids flirt with me.

Woody, a local guy! (And good player and singer AND harp player.) I am going to the last Friday of the month open mic at the coffee house. Come on down.
When are we going to get together John? Your sounding better all the time.
Tanks, V.

Thanks, Kieth. Glad you like it.
Uncle John, thanks for sharing, had never heard it before.
Thanks, James Richey and Andries.
Andries, I don't think I would mind having my body cast out to sea. Preferably after my earthly trials are over. But I am a long way from the sea. If they cast me out on Prairie Rose Lake, I would likely wash up and ruin someones picnic.
Great song John,is there some autobiografical referens in this song? sounds so "i lived this" kind of.
Great song and great sentiment John
