I'd never heard of a Crwth until a few months ago, until I was asked to make one for Kindle Theatre. It's a Welsh 6 string bowed lyre, and it looks like a cigar box joined to the back of a chair..and provides part of the soundtrack to this clip.I was thrilled to be part of this collaborative project with such talented and imaginative people."Drawing electrifying sounds from traditional instruments, and with a voice that will seduce and terrify you, Lady GoGo Goch is a music-theatre show about Welshness by Kindle’s Sam Fox. A provocative piece that breaks down clichés, Lady GoGo Goch brings together the ancient and the modern to explore our relationship to the cultural identities we inherit. Stirring and moving, funny and dark, this is a piece for anyone who loves music, language and a bit of rugby."

  • Very nice!!!

  • Very interesting sound bridge. Got the case figured out nicely too.

  • i just watched an excerpt from ' bbc show 'flogit 'featuring a crwth, pretty impressive John, seeing as you never built one before..

  • Here's the Crwth..together with one of the two bows I made for it. The other bow was slightly shorter and stiffer, with a wider band of black Mongolian horsehair, and Ricardo seemed to prefer that one.

  • Well, I'm driven to keep diversifying, moving forward and raising the bar...or at least I'm willing to take it on if  someone gives me a challenge and raises the bar, as in this example for the commission of this instrument.

  • we're certainly not used to hi fi sounds like that on cbn..

  • It's the first time I've posted something from Vimeo, so not sure how compatible it is compared to embedding from YouTube. I saw the premiere of the show and was knocked out...despite a lot of it being in a language I couldn't understand, but that really didn't matter. Sam is a great performer and Ricardo is a wonderful musician. I struggled to get a sound out of the Crwth after I'd made it, but a couple of intensive weeks rehearsals and Ricardo had mastered it. It's really got me interested in ancient instruments and I learned a lot from making it. I had to do a lot of research and it was all pretty challenging.

  • COOL JOHN.................SHE IS HOT..........

  • John, the vid does not play well for me.
