Great song done absolute justice in your video! Bravo. I'm pretty sure I saw RL Burnside about 20 years ago in Manchester in the UK - he was touring with Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. I was only young and I had never heard of him back then. I wish I'd have paid more attention!
Thank you Chuck and Dani & Grey Bear! I really appreciate all the kind words and love getting to share music with all of you awesome people while checking out yours!
I only discovered R. L. Burnside on YouTube about a couple of weeks ago. Amazing man who oozes that old Blues vibe. You should be proud of this performance. I think you did a solid rendition and I could tell it's a favourite of yours by the obvious polished and refined results. Well done and thanks for sharing this with us.
Yeah, I have listened to R.L., know his interesting history and learned at least the basics for one song - but I could not play it and sing it at the same time. I probably should have kept up with it.
There's only room for so many blues and Gospel songs in my old head at one time. I can probably do 25-30 if I keep at it. When I add more I lose some old ones!
I am a Sam Hopkins fan too. But the only one of his I can kind of do is, "The Life I Used To Live."
I suppose it was, but learning to sing was hard for me in general. I never sang until I was about 20, once I heard Lightnin Hopkins for the first time and heard how he played many of the same notes he sang and I learned how to tune my voive to guitar when needed. I guess this song does have a different vocal and guitar melody maybe?? Have you listen to RL Burnside much Uncle John?

Excellent. Was it hard for you to learn to sing with this style of playing?
