  • A truly inspired attempt, Harold, but it clearly needs more duct tape.

  • I came across B bender somewhere before - it was done via spring attached to upper part of the guitar strap, bend the B almost like playing Guitar hero.. don't recall the site / video, it was for the kit someone sells though..

I think that mentioned Country though, not Jazz...

The string bending was completely unintentional here... I might have to look into it specifically at a later point though if its really sparks a lot of interest.

  • Hey Harold jazz player sometimes install a B bender. The way you played that remains need me of those early jazz greats. It's a good idea, you just got to try again. You get it!!!!

  • I appreciate all the comments of how others failed. I think its too often left out how many times and how many ways even master builders have made mistakes, especially starting out or just trying something new and different. We shouldn't only celebrate the great successes, but also enjoy and learn from the things that go awry..

OK - there wasn't a plan for a whammy bar, but that might be an idea for a later time.. I was trying to sorta make a wooden lid for the pop can, and the first one failed because I drilled a string hole into the glue joint and it just split.. so I didn't even cut the "lid" out of the stock ( two Home Depot paint stirrers glued together side-by-side ).

Then trying to drill sound holes I nicked the screw that held it to the neck, so the bridge area was only ~1/3rd the thickness it was supposed to be...

I did a design up yesterday in CAD... Got plenty of time this weekend to work/play around with it.

  • These things can take a while.

When you buy a can of WD-40, do you ever wonder what happened to WD-1 to WD-39 ?

  • Dreams of flying machines lay broken on the ground. I had to laugh Harold. The look on your face as she disintegrated.. %~(

  • Just like my latest build . Fantastic body of alloy , Great neck mad from top shelf wood . Put it together and the bridge is 5 inches back from where it should be . Not a problem you say . It is as it's

5 inches longer than the dam body . FAIL .lol

  • What was the Plan Harold ? a canjo whammibar? material fail , they dont make wood like they use to !! Bommer ! Good luck next time!

  • LOL, the fiddle I'm working on right now is giving me similar problems. George Harrison was right - With every mistake we must surely be learning!

  • Disasters in Canjo Design.  That sounds like a learned paper in an engineering magazine.   That is an interesting arm rest thing on there.  Yup.  It does kind of lack tone in a buzzing bee kind of way.  But it is somewhat pleasing.    Good ending.
