Cypress Grove by Skip (Nehemiah) JamesI would rather be buried in some cypress grove. (x2Than have a contrary woman that I can not afford.I'd rather drink muddy water and sleep out in a hollow log. (X2)Than to stay with you, woman, mistreated like a dog.I would rather be dead and six feet in my grave. (x2)Than to be with you, woman , treating me this a-way.Well, the old people told me, just what you don't know. (x2)That the good book tells us, we reap just what we sow.I'm gonna sing this song and then won't sing no more. (x2)Because my time is precious and now it's time to go.Lick = an echo phrasing, 'A cypress grove.' 20 23 / 10I would rath er be bur ied20 23 10 / / 3rd O thumpIn a lone some cy press grove.17 / / / 5th 3rd O LickI would rath er be bur ied30 / 5th / / 3rd Oin a lone some cy press grove.35 / / / 3rd / O LickThan have a con trar eeee wo man30 / / 7th / / 10th 7thThat I can not af ford/ 5th O 3rd / O Lick thump

  • Thanks, Davey.  :)

  • U.J  Yes sir ;-)

  • Bjorn:  :)

  • I sure "like to" and I play harmonica aside records with big guys like Robert Johnson, Blind Willie McTell etc, and am still making CBGs to fit my stiff fingers (three or two strings can still be managed), so I shall hang on. I'll tell you when I'm there. Thanks again and Play and sing your heart out! I'll be listening.

  • Thanks, Bjorn.  I'm just 7 years behind you.   And I didn't even start on this slide blues until about 2010  with some Keni Lee Burgess lessons.   I did not stick with it consistently - and I kind of learned my own way.

You can learn it too if you have enough  'like to".   I don't have a whole lot of playing talent, but I do have 'like to."

Your build looked good, man.   Thank you for the kind words.

  • Hi Uncle John. Just listened to your nice version of Cypres Grove. When I grow up (I'm only 71 by now) I

hope to be that good to play (I really can't sing, and whisteling the blues is maybe too awkward?)

Thanks for your friendly comment on my build # 8. Bjorn

  • Thanks, Jim.  I hope all your spring projects are going well.

  • Sounds mighty fine Unc!

  • Good deal Chris!

  • That's cool U.J. . I can really respect where your coming from! If you "ever" need help with that frying pan ... "I'm your go to man". ... Just call on me brother! No sense in trying to reinvent the wheel ... "That's what I Love about the Nation" - we all get to tap into each other!
