  Hi, yes I am. Will be good to meet you since I am the proud owner of a smojo three string Don Thomas. Yes loads of videos of his on YouTube here is just one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SwbaXmAt_8 . He has five albums out and has been on Later with Jools Holland three times. I love his stuff.

  Yes, these little interests do have a habit of growing legs financially!
  As it happens, I have a little 8 track mixer and a mic sat gathering dust, and Im not too concerned about recording anything - I just want to jam, even if it is just with myself!
  Recording with computers can be very frustrating... and costly. I used to do a lot of stuff on the compi, using cubase, reason, wavelab etc, and always had a real chew getting my guitar to sound anything like good enough, even with a heap of good gear.
  Best go check the piggy bank :o)
  Ps will jamming on my own stunt my growth?

  Ben. Yes same as KT's that's what got me fired up. Bought it new, not Ebay but can't remember. I'll find it and let you know later. About £130 but worth it. The jacks on the back - a standard i/put, an output to amp and the others are somewhat bizarre - extra o/puts to be used from the virtual playback heads on the delay side function. You'll never use those. What you'll need to go with it is a small mixer - say at least 4 inputs and ideally one that has a specific mic input (different impedance to guitars). The set up then is plug your mic, washboard, drum machine, guitar etc into the mixer. Take the output of that to the input of the Akai and the output of that to your amp or recording device. You can then lay any of your instruments and mic down onto the same loop. It's a really cool pedal and can be used for all sorts of purposes. Lay down a loop to jam along to or record. The echo/delay functions are great too. You'll end up spending a few £100 pounds in the end to get the results you want. I bought the Akai (about £130) then wanted to add mic'd instruments or vocals so needed the mixer (Ebay second hand about £60) . Then wanted a decent mic so bought a Sure SM57 (about £90) Then to record it I found I had latency probs with my laptop and needed to buy a USB soundcard (Nio 2/4) (Ebay s/hand about £75). Depends what you want to do. The Nio is also a small 2 channel mixer so could be used for one mic and one guitar but I prefer something with more channels. The mixer I bought is a Tapco Blend 6. They don't make em now though but it's good - made by Mackie who make a similar one under their own name. Finally I will need to buy some reasonable active monitor speakers because I am playing around with recording now and the PC won't drive ordinary ones so there's about another £130. I reckon I've got a decent little set-up now and just need to learn how to use it all properly and most importantly - do something creative with it. My first attempt is the Desert Heat tune on my page. The repeated violin type sound is a loop on the Akai. It's really easy to get something unusual and lsitenable going on these pedals once you've mastered the art of starting and stopping it at the right time to get a seamless loop.

  Anyone know if this is the same toy that KT Tunstall uses?
  David, is that mutiple jacks on the back? For example, could I plug in a cbg, a washboard and a stomp box and layer the same track?

  thanks for that info smojo..oh that's good that you can alter the voumes like that, didn't think you would be able to....yeah I saw that KT video...she makes it look easy!!
