Deep South of Louth enjoying the sunshine. I am at the Funny as Folk festival this weekend in Caboune Parva. I'll be taking my biscuit tin and UKE so sure I will doing something. I have a spot at the Mablethorpe busking day in August. Hopefully I will be in Lincoln on the busking day will have to pop by and take a gander.
I finished the 3 string and have strung it up, decent enough volume considering it's only acoustic. Having a bit of difficulty tuning it to open G as i'm not too sure about the # and b thing and the G's being an "octave" apart. I seem to be taking the bottom G to almost breaking point. I also think my strings may be too high off the fretboard? I think I'm going to take a break now as I'm getting a bit frustrated to say the least.
Oh by the way I got hold of a glass slide that fits me okay but all I've managed to get out of it is a kind of scraping whine, not good.
Nearly finished the first one Steve, just got the tailpiece screwed down and some sound holes cut into the box. Nothing fancy as this one is just a trial really, I made a mistake right at the start of the build but managed to recover it and I won't make the same mistake again that's for sure.
I just need to get her strung up now, but I'm going to wait until tomorrow to do that as I need to practice on my shop bought guitar. I'll let you know if I get any sound out of her when it's done. Still trying to find something to use as a slide, I have such small hands its proving to be a problem getting something to sit on my little finger comfortably.
I have all I need to build the first, this will be a trial run so I'm just going to use a pretty scruffy cigar box and a piece of timber from B&Q for the neck, The neck is the piece that worries me most to be honest, I then have the black Cohiba box I showed you and, I've just bought a plain wine presentation box which I want to use and decorate myself. I have some pieces of antler which I hope to use for the nut and/or bridge. I won't risk ruining either of my 2 decent boxes until I've got over my nerves with the first build. Hope to get started this weekend as I spent the last one stripping wallpaper.
Thanks for the invite mate but I'm going to have to take a rain check on this one as I have my grandchildren staying with me at the moment. However I would be happy to come along some other time. I am just getting my stuff together to build my first CGB, just hope it turns out ok? Good luck on Monday night mate.
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. I wish I had known there was some live music at the fleece, especially if it was Blues. It's been far too long since I went out anywhere.
If you are playing anywhere else in the city I would be grateful for the heads up so I can go an listen to you play. I'm only just starting to learn guitar and am currently on the poor side of dreadful, though it is frustrating it keeps me reasonably happy. I already spotted the BoxStock festival and plan on going along myself. Take care.
Yellowbelly Flatt Thank you for the welcome. Having seen Seasick Steve play on TV, my sons and I built a couple of deadly blows, they are guitarist I am NOT. They have now lost interest but having stumbled across Cigar Box guitars in the process I am now fascinated by them. I made a guitar out of a wine box and old guitar neck, I am and in the process of trying to build one out of a biscuit tin, as I cannot get hold of a cigar box. I am sure I will need some advice and hope to make use of the forum.
Thanks for the welcome. Just built my first CBG, Deciding whether to fret it or not, Will post pics when i have built the amp to accompany it. Finding lots of good stuff on the site!
Thanks for the welcome YBF. The dog in Oliver is called Bullseye, and I am called that due to a joke at work. Brilliant CBG name, and that pic will be glued and laquered onto the CBG I am getting built.

Hi, thank you for the welcome. It's good to see someone reasonably local on the CBN. I'm based down near Fakenham having been washed up on the East coast from the Midlands about 6 years ago :oD.
I'm a newbie to musical instruments but promised myself I'd learn one before I was 50 so I'm starting early !

Not thought about handlebars at all, wouldn't have a clue where I could get any to cut up either??

Thanks for the good luck. I'll let you know once I get it finished. Very few tools and absolutely NO woodworking skills,
what could possibly go wrong?

Damn!!!!!!!!!! Looks like CBG's grow on trees in your neck of the woods.
Thanks for the advice, I have every intention of keeping it simple, my limited skills will
not allow anything ambitious.
Hey Steve
Good to meet you today, Rolling & Tumbling on a Uke & Kazoo was a first for me.
I'm going to start work on my first one in the next couple of days, fingers crossed
I don't screw up.

Is the venue actually in the library? I will come along and have a listen.
I'll look forward to it.

Hi there Yellowbelly just thought I'd drop you a line to ask how your open mic slot went the other night, okay I hope?
Best wishes
