"Happy New Year Jon! I've learned for acoustic response 1/2 to 2/3 (from the neck join end) is best. Like JD said, this allows the most resonance from the top - remember: guitars are basically air pumps, and the pressure of the bridge elicits…"

Hey all, maybe I'm getting caught up in all these "Decade in Review" specials, but before this one's over I was thinking it might be fun to dig back and share memories, anecdotes, samples, etc of your first-ever build - whatever it was: success or fail (probably how most of us learned!). Technically my wife actually built this and I helped out with some basic carpentry tips. It's a a typical neck-thru fretless three string paperboard Fuente box with one hard-wired disc piezo. Since it was her…See More

Hi Tom. I don't use glue on the tack heads. I pre drill the tack holes about 3/4 of the tack length. I want the tacking to be gentle on the bowl. I get very tight heads with no slippage. I'm going to try glue on one using the hose clamp method. I'll make my own body for that to suit the clamp. I do glue in tacks that don't hold with super glue. I get a few of them due to too deep pre drilling. Hope this helps.

Hi Tom, I thought we were friends on here already!

I'm using the EADG strings from a  string and tuning down slightly on the top and bottom. This neck has a steel rod for strength. TBH the quarter sawn oak I use for my necks is mega strong. It can easily support 4 strings without any strengthening!
