they were popular in England, there was a company there that made them, i have some old photos of them from the early 1900's...I forget the name....they are on the red dog guitars site in the history section..cant remember where..I think its a phonaphone

Any thoughts to the instrument to Wait's left? Appears to be a Stroh tuype instrument. Perhaps a Stroh guitar? Too big for a violin.
