Meet Twiki. This was my first build. Its a craft store cigar box, a tin can lid tail piece, with a closet rod neck, and a generic strat pickup. It can be played with the fingerboard with a funky sitar buzz (not intentional, but cool). It is played with slide mostly. The rope made a handy strap.

  • Thanks for the comments. Found objects make great creative materials. I hadn't thought of using a crate and replacing the back, that is a fantastic idea. That door skin, is it engleman or sitka spruce (lol)? There is always another way of viewing things.

    Yes, the rope was my Beverly Hillbillies touch. The strap buttons are are screw through a nut as a spacer and washer to hold the "strap".
  • I'm experimenting with craft store boxes too.
    I was given a large wine box from a friend up north that she found in a junk shop and brought to me thinking I might be able to do something with it.
    The bottom was shot and had been reglued badly ,and the sides of the box along the bottom was beyond just a simple regluse.
    I ripped about 1/4 inch off the bottom all the way around and cut a new bottom out of door skin.
    It looks great and will go on the next 3 string I build.
    I like the cool rope handle it was made with too.
