Due to my intense paranoia and need to make things complicated, I decided to add a stiffening rod. Easy as pie--the steel stock fit neatly in a single saw-blade width cut. I did have to dig out the end with my Dremel (fast becoming my favorite tool), which was ugly, but, then, you'll never see it from the street.
