They are ukulele friction tuners. To install: Drill a hole in the headstock just smaller than the knurled bushing. Press the bushing into the face of the headstock, put the shaft into the bushing, put the plastic washer on the back of the headstock, put on the tuner button and tighten everything together with the screw. Tightening the screw will adjust the tension of the tuner (how hard it is to turn) and will keep the string from unwinding. These work great for ukulele strings but I wouldn't recommend them for metal strings.
