  • I like the way you did the tailpiece out of a piece of plate aluminum.   This is one of the tp designs, I'm considering on my

next build, and the endstock of the neck/toneblock will be wider to accomodate 3 or 4 long screws to support it.

Sometimes the simpler approach is the best.

  • I found that on mine, the pressure of the 6 strings on the bridge was caving in the top slightly, so I fashioned a strut (brace)

that runs across the top of the box right where the bridge is placed for intonation.  This rib supports the bridge better and

transfers the sound from the bridge to the top better.

  • I don't have any inside shots but would like to post them as I struggled to get inside shots of other people's builds so that I would know what to do inside.   Basically I didn't put any struts on the box face to strengthen it. So far it seems to be coping.  It is a small box though and the bridge is quite large to spread the load (the string spacing at the bridge is 60mm).  The neck passes all the way through the box and is flush with the tail end of the box.  The tail piece is screwed directly into the end of the neck.  The box front face doesn't sit on the neck as I have put in a spacer at either end of the box so that the front face is free to vibrate so that I can play around with it acoustically.  I had to cut a recess into the neck for the pickup but the jarrah has plenty of strength so it hasn't bowed at all (so far) not that it matters that much as the action is intentionally high.  I will upload a sound test when I get round to it.
  • Beautiful instrument man! How did you strenghten the box for 6 strings? Do you have any inside shots?
  • ;-)  yep  might as well  enjoy it

  • Thanks, yeah I decided to have the label face me upright since I play it on my lap and I am not playing for a crowd.

  • Wow!
  • Lovely, nice work.
  • had  to look at  it  a few  times  , thought  it was a south paw  for   a  min .

i  guess the label   just faces  out  upside down .  sweet   though .  ;-)

  • beautiful!
