The $30 Piano from the Salvation Army Store

This Piano was sourced from The Salvo's store for $30, bought with the idea of using the timber (which I think is Spruce, Maple and Beech and Ebony on the keys) for CBG builds, it also yielded Piano Wire, Tuning Pegs etc.The 1st build using some of these materials is AGP #81“Sore Horse”.

  • Probably and early/mid 1900's piano by the looks but, I am far from an expert. If they are ivory they will probably be a bit yellowish from age, also Ivory has a grain to it similar to wood (growth rings) if you look closely. The grain would run the length of the key. They probably aren't ivory but be sure before you scrap them. I bet you can come up with a use for them on your builds with your great imagination.

  • Not sure of the age of this Piano or if the keys are ivory veneer or of a type of plastic, I'm not sure how to tell the difference, they look like some sort of cellophane or plastic to me?.

The piano was made in England by a firm called Moore & Moore, I have searched the internet for info, but have been unable to discover any relevant  details regarding the correct age or materials used.

  • A lot of good material there if you have a place for it and a mind for it.

  • Is the piano old enough to have ivory veneer on the keys? If so, they are worth a little money.
