That’s excellent Jim. I think the big hole sideways in a neck must weaken the neck too, this wouldn’t weaken it any more than a truss rod would. Ingenious!
Dave, I cut a groove in the neck . Into that groove I glued a length of hollow tubing. In this case it's a hollow aluminum knitting needle which runs up to the peg head. I then glued on the fret board. A small hole, which you can see in the tube, allows the string to enter the tube. It's a bit more work but it's nice to not have that protruding peg. Plus the one peg costs as much as a set of 6 guitar tuners from Gitty.

Hard to see Jim. I love this idea. I hate the side pegs on 5 stringers. I play a 4 string cause of that. This would be much better.
