  • You would never know to look at the photo at the top that the P-90 was a plan B option. The worn sides of the pickup are a nice touch.
  • Hi John, thanks for the nice comment. I'm actually (finally) quite pleased with the way this one sounds. the box is very light wood and I built it leaving a bit of gap between the top (soundboard) and the neck as recommended by Wes "Moanin' Mule" Yates, so it always did have a nice, raspy sound played acoustically. I originally built this guitar as a test bed for my hair clipper / cow magnet pickup, but sadly it sounded really very weak and thin, kind of like pups that are wired out-of-phase. I think it had something to do with the orientation of the magnetic field, as the middle string barely sounded at all when amplified (see photo).

Fortunately, installing a P-90 was my "plan B" from the start, and I really couldn't be happier with the end result.

  • That looks very nice and neat. I particularly love shading on the fingerboard. Are you happy with the way it sounds?
