spirit of 76 II- 2 string

Finally strung up- only my second 2 string. 25" scale, fretless, pine neck, oak fretboard, clay fret dots, piezo/tone capacitor pickup, corion nut, walnut bridge.I made a major error- yea, the fret dots. This was the first time I went without any fret lines and I guess I was not smart enough to mark the dot placement correctly. DOH! SO yea, 4th, 6th, and so on....But still sounds good. just tuned GD but would like to play around with the tunings.

  • yea, I got the idea of clay dots after reading that clay dots were used in guitar fretboards in the 50's and 60's, I watched a guy do a tutorial similar to the link below and thought I'd give it a go. I use a flat piece of aluminum instead of the squarish one. Anyway, I like the look. I made molds for 1/4", 1/8" and 3/16 dots. Clay comes in so many colors, although I have only used black and antique white so far.

I like using wood dots as well, but hard to make 3/16 and 1/8 ones.

  • Clay dots sound interesting. Even though..

  • cool , 2 stringers are a hoot .. power chord party ;-)

  • ha, lol, Yea, UJ, I prefer the same, that is for sure.

  • Looks great, Lon.  I mark frets 3, 5, 7 and 12 on the player side right on the fret line spot. Makes playing easier for me.
