If the scrap yard turns up nothing, I'll be buying new...so will check PepBoys et al...I like the ida of the OSH plumbing isle --- but boy some of the simple little fixtures they sell will be like 15.95 for some normal faucet mounting ring. I go to Apex Scrap Metal yard in SunValley ---- everything from rocket nose cones to old radio parts, and tiny, screws bolts, tubes, wires, and hardware from a million failed or defunct electronic labs. it's a mess, so I lose about three hours only to walk out with nothing, but occasionally find some cherry items. Found 4 matching 6" stainless steel flat rings with holes around the edges...would be great frame for a soundhole with the Pep Boys screening as grill?) --- I gotta get a little cash saved so I can buy the tuners and some extras I need to finish the three CBGs in progress...
that could be very cool --- but I think I like the screen thing for better sound pass-through for this mic -- but I'll be looking for cool stuff next time I go to the scrap yard
did ya ever see those hot pepper shakers at the pizza shop? Maybe u can use the metal top as the center piece. I got one at the thrift store for .50 im gonna make a mic out of it
Exactly! YES -- I was thinking about mounting a Mylar sheet in a circle frame --- and spray mounting the piezo unit(s) in the middle of the taut Mylar....shooting for a caveman engineering ribbon mic?? eh, might suck, but might be SOOO industrial and crummy, it'll sound incredibly grungy and authentic old school.
oh bummer, I tried to paste a photo in there like in an email but it just showed blank...it's a still frame from 'Oh Brother Where Art Thou' from the recording studio scene -- some fat cylinder housing suspended from springs. I was thinking do something like the old radio mics from the 30's -- some membrane piezo unit hung between four springs attached to an outer ring or frame. something half-legit half-goofy looking -- a low-budget film prop
No Francis I never thought of either of those. I'm gonna try both. I did consider putting a piezo inside some packing foam and see what happens. Thanks for the tip. yo E sup...... Dave
