Simple Lap Steel Guitar

2 days ago I got a hankering to build a lap steel. I picked up a couple pieces of scrap wood I had just brought over from my old garage and started figuring out how to put them together into a guitar. This is what I came up with. I originally planned to use a magnetic pickup but when I went to grab one, I couldn't find them. I thought they got stolen when my tools got stolen but I actually ended up finding them later. By that time I'd already set it up for a pair of piezos, so that's what it has. The electronics are housed in a tin from some poker cards, which just happened to fit perfectly with the two other boards. I'm pretty darn happy with how this one turned out.

  • I thought about painting it, but in the interest of simplicity just clear coated everything.

  • Excellent.   That box or tin is like a match made in Heaven.   It might be that I would paint the ironing board part, but it looks so good as it is..........
