In addition to th front port I also removed the screw in lid from the top so the person playing has some sound directed in his/her direction.

Thanks Terry. This one has a 42" scale. I measured a friend's actual double bass at 41 3/4" and rounded up in an attempt to put more tension on the weedwhackers.
This is a piece of 1/4" luan mahogany fro Lowe's hardware. About 12 bucks for an 8'x4' piece. Worked purty good! I did put a cross brace about an inch behind the bridge.

Yeah Andy, you can see the piece of maple attached to the heel. This piece extends thru the body and is screwed in at the bottom.
