I got the concave and convex ones off eBay. They seem to be good quality but I haven’t used them much. They were about 1/4 of the price of store bought ones. I guess the ability to hold a sharp edge will tell if I got a good deal.
I think they come in a few different styles. This one is flat face and a straight blade. I think some have a blade with a curved edge, concave , and some have a curved, convex face for making concave cuts, like a hollow in a chair seat. There are also combination ones that have two kinds in one. This is the only one I have ever used.
Not sure looking the picture but is the blade straight or slightly concaved? I've meant to pick one up but not sure which would be best. Seems like a concaved one would be best for shaping necks.

They need to be really sharp.

I have both, the curved blade works great !

Nice and smoooooth, great job with the shaver B.H.! You have a lot of tinder to build a campfire now :-)
Got to get me a nice spoke shave, they're handy for removing material. that and a scraper.
Old School....use mine on every neck i ever made.
My favourite pastime! (-:
That's a beautifully rounded neck. I've been looking into getting a spokeshave - what kind do you recommend?
