Tim and Wes you're too kind really..its a blender pot with blobs.. lmao. Dan the flux is built into the solder. The issue is that I have a soldering iron with a tip on it... have looked online and seen now that you can get irons with different size tips for fine work. and Dan what is a ground loop??
Are you using any flux? If not, it will help immensely. The solder should pretty much be shiny if it is soldered correctly. And make sure you don't accidentally wind up with a ground loop.
Hint: cover ("silver") the end of the wire with the solder, do the same on the contact surface of the switch/jack/socket - just a thin coat of solder. It makes the soldering way easier and you'll need just a small "drop" of solder and a very short touch with the soldering iron to securely connect the both.
I'm hoping that it will either get me a sympathy vote or provide encouragement to others to give it a go. Yeah I have to do it in my kitchen on the stove under the extractor fan so I dont kill myself with fumes... the blender pot is a little mini nightmare as there are six connections to solder plus ground wires to be soldered to the pot.
Brave of you to share that : -) The last bit of soldering I did I got a bit of hardboard and drilled a hole in it. Then put the vol pot shaft in the hole...made it a lot easier. Oh and I went and got my glasses. Both these things helped a lot. Much less swearing than usual!!
I'm going to get one of those hobby multi clamp things with a magnifiying glass attached. This was a nighmare job no clamps, poor eye sight and huge soldering iron.
