This is a good view of the scarf joint.I glue the head stock piece on first - cut it, and then glue the fret board woods over it.I've learned when carving the head stock to keep the back side flat so as to more easily accept the small screws holding the tuners.

This is the back side to the LP Donovan Greatest Hits.
I saw this same image on one early morning walk, which inspired the sound hole design. Originally, it was to be wood burning around the open shapes. I may do that yet someday.
