Yup strangely I couldn't get my hands on a cheap 30
So have a 40Xl coming
The new 40gx superceeds so the Xl is going cheaper at the mo
The sounds on the new gx sound less synthetic
But they just work!
I got a vox vt 30 with wasnt impressed with but actually
When you play back vids with it it sounds better recorded
As it cuts through but on its own sound iffy.
its a Cube 30X-they dont make that particular model any more but if I were buying one again I'd go for the 40X-not cos I've ever needed more power-just that it comes with a built in looper which might be fun to mess with.Having gigged this amp all over,I'm in a good position to pass judgement- its a bit weird-sometimes it sounds great (like on the German tv vid) and sometimes it sounds synthetic and dreadful (like on the British pilot tv vid)..also the reverb isnt the best on this, despite it sounding great on its tiny cousin the microcube.
I think the stock pots actually look OK with the gray tops (it'd be a different story if they were multi-coloured like the similar style ones on Boss effects). However if you're still looking for something a little more "vintage" then you could try starting your search at the following awesome knob resource (if you'll pardon the phrase)
Small Bear Electronics in the states look like a good supplier - they're aimed at musicians and hobbyists and their product descriptions mention where items are equivalent or similar to parts from old effects.
hey thanks for the tip-always up for ideas-speaking of which,I wanted to change the pots for chickenheads but I dont think they'll fit (the chickenhead pots Ive seen r quite long and the pots on the amp are close together) any ideas anyone-or are the stock pots ok?
the leather trunk handle gives this little amp tons of vintage character---plus the stain and the sanded corners adds to that character---- just a note about the leather---- some of it on the corners would set it nicely.
yes, That's the place....LoL-merit badges online.com...just tell 'em that was an Irish coffee....that should get you in the door for one of those "Budding BluesBoy" arm patches :^)
