rj2string

Two string originally made for charity auction at work. The guitar players didn't want to touch it for some reason. I took it in to see whether I should finish it or go with a 3 string fret less with a square neck. The tape is to help with the mock up as I wondered if the 3/4 neck would bow too much. It does have a pretty high action. Tuned E - e and rings like a bell. Might end up giving it to the co-worker who really likes it.

  • Finished it off last night in time to give it to the friend at work as a retirement gift. Put in some fret markers, the important ones, and swapped strings. He was really happy.
Now it's time to build something and keep it.
  • Thanks, Micheal.   Will hope to see it clear done.

  • Should add that I'd love to hear it played by Uncle John.

  • Thanks for the encouragement John. Sometimes when I come up against "musicians" I feel a bit awkward. I'm always at the end of the bell curve, as mentioned below, in a lot of the things I do with music. Even the experimental and electronic stuff I do is sometimes looked at sideways. Must be why I gravitated to the whole cigar box thing in the first place. ;-)
I'll post some more pics once its done.

  • Music snobs like those guitar players, piss me off.   I want to bite and kick them.  Well that's from a Who song.  Maybe I just want to slap them upside the head.

THAT is a cool build.  I would pick it right up and take it for a spin.

  • I knew the suggestion of a fretted version would come up, I have the materials and will likely go that route. It's not going to be finished as quickly as I had hoped but they are behind in getting the auction site up anyway. Thanks for the input Ron. (Which coincidentally is the name of the probable recipient of the two string)

  • I think it's embarrassment, as in, " I don't wanna reveal I don't know how to play this, because if I do, then I'm not the kewl guitar god I tell myself I am..." 3-string fretted will get more looks, I'm thinking...
  • Was getting that feeling when I showed it to them. I did mark some frets for them to shoot for but they didn't even try. The idea of the auction is to raise some cash for the United Way. I'm guessing that a fret marked flat neck would draw more bids than this one would.

Looks like I'm going to have to shoot for the middle of the bell curve rather than the ends....

  • Git players who learned on a fretted instrument are leery of frets they can't see...they tend not to trust their ears.
