Relic Fender Champ rebuild

I finished the missing control plates and pickup cover and installed a jack cup (from China). The knobs might be temporary as i have some chrome Fender knobs here somewhere. I like the vintage on on the right though. Bakelite from the 30s.

  • Hey thanks Uncle John, glad you like the tone bar. I like them a lot lately. They sound good on this Fender Champ. I can't get over the sound of this thing. My best rebuild so far. It sounds almost as good as my Rickenbacher. Even more clear than the Ricky which means you can hear every mistake clearly. I've got to work on my chops. This allows no sloppy sliding. :^)
  • Looking GOOD.

Hey, Dave.  I have meant to tell you.  I sat down with the tone bar (lap type slide) you sent me.  A couple of times.  It felt less un-natural to me than I expected and was fun.   I wish I could do it well enough to thank you with a video.  But I can't!~

  • Hey Wes, I found the chrome. Nice ones too. However, they were a tad too small to fit the shafts of my pots. I found a pair of nice dark wood ones shaped the same as the chrome. They look good on the Champ, so they are the winners for now. I may enlarge the holes in the chrome or look for other chrome knobs.
  • Thanks Jim. It's coming nice. Now to see how it sounds. Oh boy, i like that part.

  • NICE plan; beautiful execution! What an improvement over the original!
