Relic builds and Dave Lynas slides

These cigar brands were the ones I would see on TV commercials as I was growing up. The two owls are fretless and tuned DAD or EBE. The Roi Tan and King Edward are fretted and DGB or CFC.One of the owls will get given away tomorrow night, so I must choose which one.One more that I may add to the collection is a Muriel, also one of the brands I would see advertised back in the day.I don't use any tobacco, but I have liked cigar boxes since the mid 50s when my dad gave me a box to keep my treasures in.I forget what all those treasures were- probably baseball cards, a pocket knife, some pennys, and nickels and maybe a dime.

  • Good on you Dave, for quitting the smoking habit and exercising so well.  You sure seem to have good wind on your songs.  I walk most every day and piddle with some weights.  I am doing good after doubts that I would walk again in 2017.   My balance is still off and I wish for more endurance.  But I an thankful and currently on a building binge.  4 more in the works.

Thanks, Lonman.  I like a bit of color and I love much used poor man's guitar look.

Good on you too, Bones.  I am too cheap and/or poor for expensive habits.  I have cut my whiskey drinking way back and feel better and bit leaner.  Wow, love you story on the box from your dad!

  • Nice looking guitty UJ ,sofar I've been 1 year with no cigars and feel much better not to mention the money that I've saved .... My dad use to smoke stogies and a pipe and yes I got a box to keep my slot cars in I've used that box to make my first CBG from it reminds me of him every time I play it .

  • I have always like the colors with the fades on the necks. I need to try that sometime. Also the colored fret spaces I have seen DL do. Nice stuff UJ.

  • Yes Uncle, I was too young to be a smokestack. My Dad smoked cigars and Mom smoked cigarettes. I was influenced. I smoked till about 15 years ago. I pushed my luck till I couldn’t sing a song without coughing. One verse and I was hacking. That was unexceptable. I quit cigarettes for good. Joined my fitness center, swim every day, take sauna every day, learned the didgeridoo (it’s a great breathing exercise), learned circular breathing, swim underwater for the length of the pool and got my song back. Now I can sing a song through and then cough. :*)

  • Thanks, guys.  John they are shorter scales - about 22-24 inches.  To tell the truth, I don't so  much plan a length.   I just hold up a board and choose a length.   Looking at them now, the top neck looks overly long.  On the other hand, long necks for fretless work best for my playing.  I get gits done and use the Stew Mac fret calculator.  I use centimeters not inches.

Good idea on the cigar bands, Wes.  I may go back later and do that.

  • Beautiful work... what's the scale length?

  • Cool, they look even better in color. Nice gits UJ!

  • Thanks, guys.  No Brian on the bakelite boxes.  Other than bakelite radios.  Some of them were really pretty.  Dave, you were too young to be smoking stogies!   AGP, I often have trouble parting them.  I am kind of blessed to not have too much storage and it helps get them out the door.

  • "All Nice UJ", I personally would find it difficult to part with any of them  :-D

  • Oh, nice slides! :*)
