The rose design and leaves on this are actually separate veneers, all applied individually by hand, so they're not generic, cheap jobs! Most of my designs are done using this technique. I've many more designs in the pipeline, especially the crackled leaf metal patterns, as they seem to be much admired.
Hi Jabes, I press mould them. The polymer is basically a plastic clay, so I form a central plug using one mould, apply thin slices, veneers of clay, in this case the rose pattern, and then I press the whole thing in the knob mould. The pressing leaves a central hole, and after I've 'cooked' the knobs, I press in the central insert using another press. It's taken me a considerable time to perfect, but I feel I'm there now. I finish the tops in a UV cure resin, and give the rest of the knobs three brush applied coats of water based polyurethane varnish. I was epoxying the entire knob until recently, but the resin on the sides didn't always cure as fully as that on top, despite trying all sorts of light sources and rotating turntables.
