Punch Shorter Shorty

The Punch Shorter Shorty is named as such because I have a Punch Shorty and this girl is shorter yet. 19 3/8" scale, fretted, walnut/through neck, cherry fretboard/heel, piezo embedded in the bridge. She's fun to play.

  •  Thanks , Maddog !  I'll probably stick with 3/4 " precut  stick.  But good to know !

  • Hey Joel, the neck thickness on this one without the fretboard is 1". I started with full 5/4 raw material and by the time I saw it down and run it through the planer I net 1".

  • Thanks Joel! I'm not sure on the thickness, the git is out at the cabin but I'm going out there tonight so I'll put a tape on it. Suspect Device was wondering about the box size so I'll kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Most of the necks I make are from 4/4 or 5/4 material, I will angle the headstock also but on this it's a straight cut. Gives it more depth.

  •  Nice one Maddog !  I've made a couple of 20" scale CBG's for grandchildren .  I need to make one to keep .  Love playing the smaller scaled CBG's !!   The head on this one seems to "drop" more than mine .  What is the neck thickness , not including the fingerboard ?    Thanks !

  • I'm actually a member of the RiverRat Association (have been since the late 70's) based in Yankton, South Dakota so I believe I'm qualified. ;-)

  • Thanks so much John! It's a duck decoy weight, the bell is topped by a flying mallard (you can't see it in the pic) so I thought it was appropriate. The short scales are kinda growing on me thanks to you, never paid em' no mind til we started talkin' about em' the other day:-)

Funny you bring up a RiverRat Git, that rattled around my brain a while back. I'm thinkin' a line of RiverRat gits. Kinda along the lines of Picks Swampwitch (but different of course). Whatcha think???

  • Like that one and what's getting to be the Maddog classic head stock lines.  Another good photo.  Is that a fishing weight hanging from the bell?  How was the short scale?   Harder to get right than the longer scales?

A river rat guitar might be cool.
