when i was a kid i remember seeing an old soldier busking with what was probably one of these, notice the prices are in £s,quite a lot of £s back then. where did you find the ad?
407bug: Thanks for sharin' this with us, this is way too cool !!!
Clockwork: The larger horn on my guitar gives very minimal improvement in sound, more for looks.
But crap, I have most of these parts. Now I gotta' build one of these, or somethin' similar. Although I haven't grasped exactly how it works yet. Well, I guess the bathroom remodeling project goes back to the bottom of the list. hahaha
ProfWaldo built something with a horn/phono thingamajig on it. Don't know if it was functional, or decorative. There are photos and videos of it on his page.
I remember back a few years ago when the Nation had a build off contest, it was a non wood use challenge. I wish i knew exactly where those pic`s are on the photo`s page, cause i think a few of the builders were aiming at this same idea. Tinqui8 was the winner of that contest with his motorcycle gas tank lap steel build.
I had this discussion with the barefoot cajun a few months ago, we were talking about the diaphram as the most important part of doing this type of build. Bri suggested using an old horn from a model A ford as the diaphram, then using a metal bridge connected to the diaphram. If you research the Stroh type of instruments that were made back in the early 1900 you can find some precise photo`s of the diaphram. Good luck to anyone who attempts to build an instrument like this.
