Your so right about the random patterns JP. It is fun watching it change with each pass through the planer. When you get to something you like just plane the rest off the other side.
Hey Mark, Your guitars are so very beautiful. I love watching them being born. I love the spalted maple as well. I made a concert ukulele using maple as my top soundboard. It didn't work very well as acoustic. Very quiet and not much resonance. I decided the maple was my mistake. How's this one compare to your cedar tops? How thin did you get your maple? My ukulele was kind of thickish (about 3/16s). I've used the maple on backs with great success and great volume with spruce tops. .. Dave

Wow Mark, that's great. I'd like to try some maple tops, but since my uke experience i've been shy. Now i'll give it another try. Thanks...
Thank you Dave. The top on this one was planed down to 3/32". It resonates really well, brighter sounding than the cedar.

Nice work Mark! Spalted Maple is beautiful...very eye catching. Can't beat mother natures random patterns!
