Pallet Build Trio

3 of probably 6 builds with necks made from a pallet. 2 oak boards and the rest a mystery. Light in weight and color, but not fir, pine or spruce. Maybe cottonwood.White Owl and Roi Tan are nice playing fretless guitars with disc piezos. The Pacemaker is fretted and plays easily. Acoustic volume is good and tone is not so good.

  • Thanks, Patrick!

  • I love all 3, for some reason I am drawn to the White Owl with the 10 cents on the box top as my favorite. It has a front porch/bib overalls/straw hat/barefoot feel to it :-)

The Pacemaker and Roi Tan are close seconds though, probably go with the Pacemaker second as the 5 cents just does it for me.

  • Thanks, Gitz.   I like the good woods - good boxes - gits too, but the found and drug home stuff made into cbgs is the tradition I love.

  • Way to go Uncle...

  • Thanks Steve.   Our US pallets are mostly softwoods too and splintery.

I think that some small companies here use whatever trees come in and mill them into pallets.   Cottonwood is interesting.   Left green it will twist and bow.   The farmers used to nail it quick in a barn for slats in livestock pens, etc.   Once it dries you have to just about pre-drill to hammer in a nail.

  • Nice Uncle John.

Pretty jealous, our pallets in the UK seem to be splitting pine, knotty pine and rubbish pine; slim pickings for hardwoods!
    Cheers,
    Steve
