George, I strengthen the box by gluing a block of hard wood right across the top so that the stress from the neck is transfered to the sides of the box. I chamfer the top of the block with a slight angle so that it doesn't stop the top from vibrating freely and also fit a dowel just to locate the neck, I don't know if it really needs it strength wise but it makes it easier to glue! Use a rule or straight edge to set the angle of the neck to the height of your bridge then measure and fit the bridge afterwards. I hope this helps!
That's a beautiful lookin' uke! I'm just a beginner now, looking to build my first cheapo cigar box ukulele, with an old soprano neck from a $20 uke. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks!
"Vintage" stuff Btw I built the radio control yacht at the church youth group I help lead, we have 9 of them and are fun to race! The radio I've had since I was a kid.
