Uncle John— oops! Spellcheck messed up and I missed it. Mehlin, not Merlin is the name of my great niece, Montana. She has Down syndrome and the foundation benefits similar families.
Holes in The hinge used for the tail were a little too close together so the dowel pieces spread the strings to mitigate that. String tension holds them in
Off set was the way to go, Looks great. What is the story and purpose of the 'bumpers' between the strings? Montana Merlin Foundation? And you are from NC? There must be a story there. Are you a birder or raptor guy?
I THINK I have seen a merlin in Iowa. Where we used to live, only 90 miles away as the crow fles, we saw a LOT of kestrels. We see fewer kestrels here. Surprising what a difference 90 miles makes in the changes in species commonly seen.

Blessings on Mehlin and other folks with Downs. Good eye deer on the string spreaders.
