Not me. The guitar nuts. Many of us have used slotted screws for the nut on a didley bow. They are easy. The Action is then adjustable and they also work as a string guide to hold the string in place.IDEA: Why not use slotted screws for the nuts on fretless 2, 3 and four strings?

  • Ha!   Thanks Guys   Good point, Pick.  Should be okay for a 2 string - but would need small screws for a 3 string or it might weaken the wood too much.

  • just a shot in the dark  here , but  it is possible that some folks may fear  the process  of screwing 3 screws   along the same  line in a 1 inch thick  board  may weaken  it  and invite cracks under pressure  .  not to mention  possible inconsistency   in  height  once  each screw  slot  is   lined  up  with the string direction  . a full  half turn  can be alot depending on thread . and then again , one screw  or bolt sideways does the job. on diddlys  (especially  on  pole  necks ) , you  don't  have that instant option .  a single screw  seems logical.

  • I built a 2 string chugger with screws for the nut but have now changed to a mahogany wood one. Nothing wrong with the screws - just my poor construction!

All my canjos have used screws tho.

  • Great uncle. Works for a bridge too.
  • Go Uncle! Screw your nuts then... :*)
  • ;-)

  • Somebody just posted a photo of doing it on a 2 string.   Sure seem like a good idea.

  • Had thought about using screws for the nut(s) on a 3 string in the past, but don't think I ever got around to doing it???
