  • Hi Jim,

I like your slotted headstock with the scarf joint. Is that a 15 degree angle? I did my first slotted headstock a few weeks ago, and next I think I'll try it with a scarf joined head/neck with a 15 degree angle.

The one thing I noticed about your headstock, is how the 3-in-1 geared tuner assembly is mounted. Maybe it's superstition or an old wives' (or old husband's) tale, but I have always read that the proper orientation for a geared tuner was with the round gear pointing toward the body of the instrument. So, my thought when I saw this picture was that the tuners are mounted on the wrong side of the headstock. When I have a pair of 3-in-1 tuners, one goes to a CBG where it will be mounted on the left side (upper side) of the headstock, and the second goes to a second CBG where it is mounted to the right side (lower side) of the headstock. In this way the ornamental "harp" points to the top of the head. What are your thoughts on this? Have you noticed any other downside to mounting these tuners "backwards". I guess maybe more players prefer tuners on the left (upper) side?

Other than that one point, your work is great. I can only aspire to the quality of workmanship I see in your instruments.

  • I love the head stock. I never saw one like it. Traditional yet very clean and classy. Sweet... super job on the binding. Chuck
