Julian: Thanks. The violin was originally created to have great resonance accoustically, so I was certain that if converted it would sound good as a guitar, and it does. Everyone who's seen it thinks it's cool. It's a hoot when I light it up through my CBG amp, big sound from two little instruments. Yes, the recycling thing opens up some other possibilities, which I'm considering.
While waiting for the varnish to dry on my doubleneck, I was tromping around a secondhand store and bumped into a old violin and instantly thought of McCartney's bass guitar, so I bought the thing, took it home, chopped it up, added a neck, modified the string retainer, popped in a Piezo and a jack, and voila, I got myself a real honest-to-Wally 'Gitfiddle'.
