    Tim, I slipped a small brass like bead over the string before I ran it through the hinge hole. It keeps the string off the metal hinge altogether. Round ceramic multicolored beads work well also. Hope this helps.

    Hey Al...what did you use to fill up the holes in the hinge (screw holes) so that the string ends wouldn't pull through?
