  • Marvin, thanks for sharing the shop pictures. I love seeing the setting others build their instruments in and the tools they are using. Including yourself in the picture added the personal touch! Without a doubt the tools you have do influence how you build. I have found some tools to be game changers. Although I don’t spray any finishes! Anything more than one coat of danish oil and I’m working too hard. That said, I probably end up spraying something!!!

  • Yes Uncle John, that is a Shop Smith. I bought it used a few years ago from a man who was moving and didn't want to take it with him in the move. I've always wanted one, but the new 2 grand plus price was not feasible. He sold me this one for $650 dollars delivered. He had never used anything but the bandsaw to make rocking horses. The lathe tools, table saw blade, sanding disk, drill chuck, etc. were still wrapped in plastic!  The first time that I tried to use the drill press, the bit pointed to the ceiling... he had the motor mounted on the rails backwards! I had to dismantle it and turn the motor around. I use the lathe and the sander a lot.

  • A picture where the term " this is where the magic happens " applies .. and it's not a bedroom shot .  ;-).

  • Is that a shop smith, Marvin?  I have not heard who won the banjo contests.  I would hope you won some category for yours.
